Op maandag 12 oktober 2026 komt voor de eerste keer de leeskring van Studievereniging Ad Interim samen. Onder leiding van Neha Zaidka, alumna van de Tilburg School of Catholic Theology (TST), zullen de deelnemers met elkaar in gesprek gaan over King Lear, een van de bekendste toneelstukken van William Shakespeare. De bijeenkomst vindt plaats van 17.30 tot ongeveer 19.30 uur in de kelder van het faculteitsgebouw aan de Nieuwegracht 65 te Utrecht.
Neha Zaidka organiseerde eerder, met ondersteuning van de Tilburg School of Catholic Theology, een aantal bijeenkomsten rond klassieke werken uit de Europese literatuur. Daarbij stonden onder meer de Antigone van Sophocles en de Vita Nuova van Dante Alighieri centraal. Met de nieuwe leeskring krijgt dit initiatief een vervolg binnen Studievereniging Ad Interim.
De leeskring beoogt enerzijds de literaire taalgevoeligheid van de deelnemers te versterken en anderzijds mensen met verschillende achtergronden en overtuigingen rond een literair werk met elkaar in gesprek te brengen. Literatuur biedt bij uitstek de mogelijkheid om fundamentele vragen over mens, samenleving, moraal en levensbeschouwing vanuit verschillende perspectieven te benaderen. King Lear, waarin onder meer macht, familieverhoudingen, trouw, verraad en menselijk lijden centraal staan, biedt daarvoor volop stof.
De bijeenkomst is laagdrempelig van opzet en staat open voor iedereen die geïnteresseerd is. Een theologische, letterkundige of andere academische achtergrond is niet vereist. De voertaal van de bijeenkomst is Engels en deelname is gratis.

Reading Group to Begin with Shakespeare’s King Lear
On Monday 12 October 2026, the Reading Group of Ad Interim will meet for the first time. Under the guidance of Neha Zaidka, an alumna of the Tilburg School of Catholic Theology (TST), participants will discuss King Lear, one of William Shakespeare’s best-known plays. The meeting will take place from 5.30 p.m. until approximately 7.30 p.m. in the basement of the faculty building at Nieuwegracht 65 in Utrecht.
Neha Zaidka has previously organised a number of meetings on major works of European literature, with the support of the Tilburg School of Catholic Theology. These included sessions on Sophocles’ Antigone and Dante Alighieri’s Vita Nuova. The new Reading Group will continue this initiative within Ad Interim.
The Reading Group aims, on the one hand, to strengthen participants’ sensitivity to literary language and, on the other, to bring together people of different backgrounds and convictions around a shared literary work. Literature offers a particularly fruitful way of approaching fundamental questions concerning the human condition, society, morality and worldviews from a variety of perspectives. King Lear, with its themes of power, family relationships, loyalty, betrayal and human suffering, provides ample material for such discussion.
The meeting is intended to be accessible and informal in character and is open to anyone who is interested. No background in theology, literature or any other academic discipline is required. The meeting will be held in English and participation is free of charge.
